Don’t Miss Out On These Latest UK Business Grants Deadlines

If you are a UK business looking for a funding boost for your latest plans, there are a number of grants currently available, including for business growth, innovation, purchasing equipment and recruiting and developing staff activities.  One of the key challenges for most business owners is creating a strong application for a grant before the deadline hits. This blog provides examples of upcoming deadlines for mid April 2024 so you can allow plenty of time to get your applications in.

1) Business Growth

Business growth funding covers the cost of business development activities such as launching new products or services, marketing costs and growth planning. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for April.

i) Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund by Northern Ireland Screen: This grant supports the creation of high-quality Ulster-Scots language content for broadcast media, such as TV shows, documentaries, or films in Northern Ireland and offers funding to cover a portion of production costs. Maximum funding is £400,000. Application deadline: 19th April 2024.

ii) Business Catalyst by The Goldsmiths’ Centre: This grant provides funding alongside business support services to British designer-makers and jewellers working with precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum, looking to expand their commercial activities. Maximum funding is £1,000. Application deadline: 21st April 2024.

2) Business Innovation

Business innovation funding covers research and development project activities across various science, industry and creative sectors, here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for April.

i) Innovate UK Smart Grants by Innovate UK: This multi-round funding scheme can support a variety of innovative ideas and research and development activities, from developing new products or services to improving existing processes for businesses of all sizes across the UK. Maximum funding is £700,000. Application deadline: 24th April 2024.

ii) Start Up Grants: Round 1 – 2024/25 by Kidney Research UK: This grant programme is specifically designed for new businesses with a focus on improving the lives of people with kidney disease and aims to fund the development of products or services that address unmet needs in this clinical area. Maximum funding is £40,000. Application deadline: 24th April 2024.

3) Purchasing Equipment

Purchasing equipment funding covers the capital costs of acquiring machinery, tools or other items to run a business, such as purchasing long term assets, ICT equipment and upgrading older obsolete machinery with newer equipment. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for April.

i) Farming Equipment and Technology Fund 2024 by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: This grant is aimed at British farmers looking to modernise operations and improve efficiency. It can be used to purchase a wide range of equipment, from precision farming tools to robotic milking machines. Maximum funding is £50,000. Application deadline: 17th April 2024.

ii) Small Grants – Woodland Creation by Wales Government: This programme can provide financial assistance for creating new woodlands in Wales for landowners who are interested in contributing to the environment and potentially generating income through timber production or carbon sequestration. Maximum funding is £6,170. Application deadline: 19th April 2024.

4) Recruit and Develop Staff

Recruit and develop staff funding covers safeguarding existing jobs, creating new jobs and setting up training and skill development activities. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for April.

i) Coastal Communities Fund by Shetland Islands Council: This grant programme aims to support businesses in the Shetland Islands that create jobs and economic growth and provides means for businesses to create new employment positions at their company. Maximum funding is £100,000. Application deadline: 23rd April 2024.

ii) Flexible AI Upskilling Fund Pilot by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology: This government led innovative pilot programme is designed to help businesses invest in training their staff on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. A full roll-out is planned after successful pilot projects in financial year 2024/2025. Application deadline: 23rd April 2024.
