This week’s grant deadline updates are relating to schemes for recruiting and developing staff activities, including training, purchasing key capital equipment for your business, energy efficiency equipment and carbon reduction methods and business innovation activities, including research and development. This blog provides examples of upcoming deadlines for the middle of May 2024.

1. Recruit and Develop Staff

Recruit and develop staff funding covers safeguarding existing jobs, creating new jobs and setting up training and skill development activities. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the middle of May.

i) The Creative Skills Fund by Creative Wales: This scheme supports creative industries businesses in Wales to invest in training and development projects to upskill the workforce in each of the key sectors, prioritising projects that fill skills gaps within screen, music, animation, games and immersive tech. Maximum funding available is £125,000. Application deadline: 10th May 2024.

ii) Welsh Marine and Fisheries Scheme – Promotion of Human Capital and Networking by the Welsh Government: This scheme helps develop a skilled workforce within the Welsh marine and fisheries sector, including encouraging the participation in non-mandatory professional training, lifelong learning, the acquisition of new professional skills and occupational safety courses. Application deadline: 10th May 2024.

2. Purchasing Equipment

Purchasing equipment funding covers the capital costs of acquiring machinery, tools or other items to run a business, such as purchasing long term assets, ICT equipment and upgrading older obsolete machinery with newer equipment. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for May.

i) Business Growth Grant by Powys County Council: This grant programme helps small and medium-sized businesses in Powys, Wales, purchase new equipment or machinery to assist in business growth, recovery or the safeguarding of jobs for the community. Maximum funding available is £25,000. Application deadline: 10th May 2024. 

ii) North Devon Rural England Prosperity Fund 2024/25 – Diversification of Farm Businesses Outside of Agriculture by North Devon Council: This programme supports farms in North Devon to diversify their businesses by providing grants for equipment needed for new ventures away from traditional agricultural pursuits. Maximum funding available is £25,000. Application deadline: 13th May 2024

3. Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency funding covers the cost of equipment and measures to help businesses reduce their overall energy usage and carbon footprint, including electric vehicles, efficient lighting, insulation, renewable energy, boiler equipment and water saving measures. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for middle of May.

i) Torridge Rural England Prosperity Fund 2024/25 – Funding for Net Zero Infrastructure by Torridge District Council: This grant programme provides funding for infrastructure projects in the local rural area that improve energy efficiency and contribute to a net-zero future. Maximum funding available is £10,000. Application deadline: 13th May 2024.

ii) Heat Network Efficiency Scheme – Round 8 – Capital Funding by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: This scheme supports the improvement of the efficiency of heat networks or communal heating projects  across the UK that are currently operating sub-optimally. Application deadline: 10th May 2024.

4. Business Innovation

Business innovation funding covers research and development project activities across various science, industry and creative sectors, here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the middle of May.

i) Clinical Research Project by PetSavers: This scheme allows veterinary practices to partner with research professionals on a clinical research project to examine animal welfare and clinical disorders. Maximum funding available is £20,000. Application deadline: 15th May 2024.

ii) Call for Proposals on Applied Quantum Technologies by EUREKA: This European programme supports collaborative research and development projects in applied quantum technologies from businesses and organisations based in the UK. Application deadline: 9th May 2024.
