Current UK Business Grant Opportunities: Targeted Funding for Specific Needs

Several UK grant schemes have become available this week, addressing distinct business needs across various funding purposes, including business innovation, business growth, funding to recruit and develop staff and finance for buildings and renovation. This blog highlights a few key schemes within these core funding purposes.

1. Business Innovation

There are 1,005 business innovation schemes available

Business innovation funding covers research and development project activities across various science, industry and creative sectors, here’s some examples of what’s new this week.

  • Media Cymru Seed Fund by Media Cymru: Welsh media businesses demonstrating innovative concepts to help develop new products, services and experiences can apply for seed funding up to £10,000.
  • AberInnovation Solutions Catalyst by Aberystwyth University: Collaborative research and development projects between businesses and Aberystwyth University in the food and biotechnology sectors are eligible for grants up to £30,000.
  • Industry Impact Fund by Science and Technology Facilities Council: Projects fostering collaboration between science and industry in tackling industry challenges with high economic impact, including for the net zero and health sectors may receive grants worth up to £100,000. 

2. Business Growth

There are 314 business growth schemes available

Business growth funding covers the cost of business development activities such as launching new products or services, marketing costs and growth planning. Here’s an example of what’s new this week.

  • Scale Up 4 Growth by The University of the West of England: This university offers grants up to £15,000 alongside expert support, assisting businesses in developing and implementing growth strategies in the South West of England region. 

3. Recruit and Develop Staff

There are 759 recruit and develop staff schemes available

Recruit and develop staff funding covers safeguarding existing jobs, creating new jobs and setting up training and skill development activities. Here’s an example of what’s new this week.

  • Ayrshire Skills Investment Fund by East Ayrshire Council: The local authority provides grants to support employee training, upskilling, and development programs within eligible businesses. Up to £3,000 worth of grant funding is available per applicant.

4. Buildings and Renovation

There are 770 buildings and renovation schemes available

Buildings and renovation funding covers commercial and domestic building expansion projects, building refurbishment, new builds and shop front improvements. Here’s some examples of what’s new this week.

  • Business Recovery Grant – Storm Henk by Leicester City Council: Businesses affected by Storm Henk in Leicester can access grants reaching £2,500 for repairs and refurbishment to help prevent future storm and flooding damage. 
  • Property Flood Resilience Repair Grant Scheme by Somerset Council: The local authority offers grants up to £5,000 to businesses requiring repairs and implementing flood protection measures following flood damage.
