This blog highlights several recently announced grant schemes across the UK, including focus on revitalising commercial town centre properties, fostering innovation activities, contributing to defence activities, or propelling your company’s growth. These are some examples of the latest grants this week:
1) Town Centre Regeneration:
In the UK, a wave of town centre improvement grants aims to revitalise struggling high streets. Funded by various sources at both government and local level, these grants support projects ranging from shopfront refurbishments, change of use for long term empty spaces and marketing and digitalisation initiatives.
i) Vibrant Wiltshire Vacant Unit Grants by Wiltshire County Council: There are grants of up to £10,000 available to revitalise vacant shops in the region. They provide support for rent contributions, shop front improvements, and marketing initiatives.
ii) Redditch Town Centre Business Grants by Redditch Business Improvement District: This scheme offers grants of up to £5,000 to eligible businesses within the town centre. Funding supports refurbishments, equipment acquisition, and marketing efforts contributing to the area’s regeneration.
2) Innovation and Prototyping:
From initial feasibility studies and market research to the development and testing of prototypes, innovation financial backing empowers businesses to transform promising concepts into tangible solutions, fostering growth and driving economic progress.
i) Resilience and Innovation Grant by South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership: A regional innovation scheme that provides grants of up to £50,000 for businesses developing innovative solutions addressing economic and environmental challenges. This program encourages resilience and sustainability within the region.
ii) Design Hub by Catalyst: Northern Irish businesses can access expert design consultancy, prototyping support, and up to £3,000 in funding through Catalyst’s Design Hub. This initiative facilitates the transformation of design ideas into tangible products.
3) Defence Innovation Funding
The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) serves as a crucial driver of innovation within the UK’s defence and security sectors and utilises various funding mechanisms, accelerator programs, and expert guidance to help support businesses.
i) Defence Innovation Loans 2023/24 – Cycle 7 by The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA): This scheme offers loans of up to £2 million to foster the development of innovative defence and security solutions. This program aims to enhance national security capabilities.
ii) Competition: Rapid Detection of Toxic Gases – Phase 1 by the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) This scheme offers grants of up to £1.6 million for developing rapid detection technologies for chemical warfare agents. This initiative prioritises advancements in a critical area of national security.
4) Business Growth-Oriented Funding
Business growth grants offer a potential financial boost for companies seeking to expand or innovate with targeted support towards projects that create jobs, fuel exports, or enhance productivity. Eligibility often revolves around company size, sector, and project details.
i) Development Grants by Offshore Wind Growth Partnership: Businesses contributing to clean energy transition can access grants of up to £500,000 for growth activities related to developing innovative products and services within the offshore wind sector.
ii) Bassetlaw Accelerator – Growth Vouchers by East Midlands Chamber This scheme provides growth vouchers of up to £2,000 to eligible businesses in the Bassetlaw region. These vouchers enable access to professional services such as marketing, legal advice, and financial planning, aiming to overcome growth barriers.
