They come in many different sizes from small local grants targeted at specific towns and cities through to large nationally administered schemes that focus on the UK’s strategic economic priorities.

01 Grow your business
- What can the money be used for?
Most business growth grants fund activities that help you increase sales or find new customers such as market research, marketing, website translation or the cost of launching a product.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £224 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 825 Business Growth Grant and Funding schemes available.
- What can the money be used for?
Growing businesses can apply for grant funding to buy new plant, equipment and machinery to increase production and meet new orders.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £52.3 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 293 Purchasing Equipment Grant and Funding schemes available.
03 Meet your short term working capital needs
- What can the money be used for?
There are a number of grants available for businesses with short term working capital needs to help them fulfil new contracts or orders.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £103.5 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 45 Working Capital Grant and Funding schemes available.
04 Build or renovate premises
- What can the money be used for?
Businesses that have outgrown their premises can apply for grants to help them relocate to new premises, or to renovate or expand existing premises.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £91 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 367 Buildings and Renovation Grant and Funding schemes available.
05 Recruit and develop staff
- What can the money be used for?
Grant funding is available to help businesses hire new staff or develop their existing staff through training, business coaching and mentoring.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £33 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 302 Staff Recruitment and Development Grant and Funding schemes available.
06 Carry out R&D activities
- What can the money be used for?
Funding is available for research and development related activities, from feasibility studies through to developing and testing a prototype.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £499 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 361 Business Innovation Grant and Funding schemes available.
07 Replacing energy-inefficient equipment
- What can the money be used for?
Businesses can get funding towards the cost of replacing energy-inefficient equipment such as lighting, motors, drives, compressors, boilers and other types. The full list of eligible equipment is available on the Government’s Energy Technology List.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £31 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 87 Energy Efficiency Grant and Funding schemes available.
08 Develop overseas markets
- What can the money be used for?
Businesses looking for new markets overseas can get grant funding towards the cost of attending or exhibiting at overseas trade shows and towards the cost of localising your product and website.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £22 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 54 Overseas Markets Development Grant and Funding schemes available.
09 Property Development
- What can the money be used for?
Property developers who build or renovate residential and commercial properties are eligible to apply for funding.
- How much is available?
There’s a total of £456 million available for property developers to apply for.

There are currently 593 Property Development Grant and Funding schemes available.
10 Starting a Business
- What can the money be used for?
If you’re thinking of starting your own businesses there are grants available to help you with the cost of researching your market, creating a business plan, purchasing equipment and with developing a website.

There’s a total of £11.8 million available for businesses to apply for.
- How many schemes are available now?
There are currently 137 Starting a Business Grant and Funding schemes available.
