Running a business is all about meeting deadlines and securing funding is no different, as there is heavy competition for grants, so many funding providers have an application cut off date. This deadline means providers can then focus on selecting the top potential candidate businesses to be awarded a grant. Careful reading of the grant specifications, allowing plenty of preparation time and clearly defining what you plan to use the funding for can ensure you are included in the shortlist. This blog provides examples of upcoming deadlines for late April and beginning of May 2024.
1) Business Growth
Business growth funding covers the cost of business development activities such as launching new products or services, marketing costs and growth planning. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the next few months.
i) Seedcorn Competition by InterTradeIreland: This competition provides funding for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland to develop innovative products or services for new markets. Max funding is £100,000. Application deadline: 26th April 2024.
ii) Green LEAP Small Grants Scheme by Horsham District Council: This scheme offers grants to support local businesses in growth activities and reducing their environmental impact. Max funding is £5,000. Application deadline: 30th April 2024.
2) Business Innovation
Business innovation funding covers research and development project activities across various science, industry and creative sectors, here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the next few months.
i) UK Space Agency-Axiom Space Astronaut Mission Projects 2024/2025 – Technology Demonstrators by UK Space Agency: This programme grants funding for UK businesses to develop and demonstrate innovative technologies for future space missions across a broad range of disciplines. Max funding is £3 million. Application deadline: 29th April 2024.
ii) UK-Switzerland CR&D Round 2 by Innovate UK: This grant programme supports collaborative research and development projects between UK and Swiss businesses across a range of sectors. Max funding is £450,000. Application deadline: 1st May 2024.
3) Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency funding covers the cost of equipment and measures to help businesses reduce their overall energy usage and carbon footprint, including electric vehicles, efficient lighting, insulation, renewable energy, boiler equipment and water saving measures. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the next few months.
i) Scottish Government Nature Restoration Fund 2023 – Funding Stream for Projects over £250,000 by NatureScot: This programme provides grants for large-scale projects that contribute to nature restoration in Scotland and environmental improvement activities. Application deadline: 25th April 2024.
ii) Rural England Prosperity Fund – Small Scale Investment in Micro and Small Enterprises in Rural Areas by Dover District Council: This scheme offers grants to rural businesses in Dover for investments that improve energy efficiency, including the purchase of energy efficient equipment. Application deadline: 30th April 2024.
4) Recruit and Develop Staff
Recruit and develop staff funding covers safeguarding existing jobs, creating new jobs and setting up training and skill development activities. Here’s some examples of upcoming deadlines for the next few months.
i) Reading Internship Scheme – Full-Time Internships by University of Reading: This scheme offers grants to businesses in the Reading area to help them hire full-time hours interns from the university that share expertise in their sector. Max funding is £800. Application deadline: 30th April 2024.
ii) Help to Grow: Management by University of Hertfordshire: This programme provides a funding subsidy to SMEs in England for leadership and management training for their key staff. There are multiple cohorts taking place across the year. Application deadline: 29th April 2024.
